The long awaited fight between American, Deontay Wilder (40-0, 39 KO’s), and British, Tyson Fury (27-0, 19 KOs) takes place tonight on Showtime Pay-Per-View at 9pm EST, live from The Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The winner of this will will undoubtedly face fellow heavyweight, Anthony Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs) to determine who is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves! We’ve got a fight on our hands that will most certainly be filled with emotion, drama and entertainment.
We feel like this fight is a somewhat easy one to call. Tyson Fury, who just twelve months ago was walking around close to 400 lbs, cut nearly 150 pounds over that period of time. He weighed in 256.5 lbs, standing at 6’9 with a 85″ reach. On the other hand, Wilder, weighed in at 212.5 lbs, standing two inches shorter and having 2-inches less in reach than his opponent. Cutting 150 lbs in 12 months is both amazing and draining at the same time. This could play a big factor in Fury’s stamina and ability to fight effectively in the later rounds.
Wilder on the other hand is the older, but more experienced fighter, having fought 13 more fights in his career with 20 more knockouts. His last fight was a great come-from-behind TKO victory over a very formidable opponent, Luis Ortiz, earlier this year in March, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Fury on the other has fought twice thus far in 2018, with his most recent fight, against little known Francesco Pianeta, being a victory by points (100-90). Needless to say, Fury did not look like the Tyson Fury of old during either of his most recent bouts.
As we could see during the pre-fight press tour, all the way up to the weigh-in. Wilder is fighting with a vicious mean streak. He literally obliterated Bermane Stivern in November of 2017, after Stivern talked trash at every press conference.
We don’t see this fight going past the 8th round, as the energetic Wilder wears down Fury and finally stops him via TKO.
Fight Prediction: Wilder TKO over Fury in Round 8!!!
Tune in tonight to Showtime PPV at 9pm to see all of the action!
